For the 44th Trofeo SAR Princesa Sofia, the third event in the ISAF World Sailing Cup circuit, the top sailors tested out a new Medal Race format that could potentially be used at the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. The top 10 in the class raced two Medal Races (double points and non-discardable) to define the winner.
Belcher & Ryan Princess Sofia Palma 2013

Australians Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan went into the Medal Races on zero points after winning four out of five races in the finals. They had a 17 point lead over their Greek opponents Panagiotis Mantis & Pavlos Kagialis as they headed into these final two races. Belcher & Ryan were fourth in the first race, extending their overall lead to 21 points, and remained on these points after the shifting breeze did not allow time for the final race. The Greek team were 6th keeping them in second place and the new British pairing of Luke Patience & Joe Glanfield were 7th in the medal race to give them third overall.

These top 3 all raced with North Sails inventories.
