| Notes from Lin Robson on
North's Flying Dutchman Sails
After extensive redesign and testing of the sails, we are very
pleased with the results.
With the new main design, we have developed a sail that has greater
range and opportunity to fine tune, with the latest thinking in profile
and vertical distribution.
For the most dedicated regatta version we offer a radial head and clew,
featuring Dimension 205 Square Weave in the radials and 180 in the rest
of the sail. There is some weight savings, but the real benefits include
better, smoother shaping and an increase in modulus in key areas.
Both
versions include an inked on insignia, numbers, vision window, flattening
reef, cunningham, tapered battens and roll bag. We now offer three different,
proven genoa designs. The 1.6 is the light-medium version with extra shaping
and power down low, along with slightly more leech return. The 2.8 is
the classic medium-heavy wind band choice, with a flatter exit and overall
profile. Our latest design is the AP, which utilizes the flatter profile
of a medium-heavy sail higher up, but with added power down low. Successfully
tested in the past two Worlds, this has proven to be a very versatile
sail with great performance in raked conditions as well as having the
power necessary in lighter, first grommet conditions.
After many subtle iterations, the refined spinnaker design has added
power up higher without compromising the proven reaching capability. International
competition the past two years have proven that this design is a major
leap forward. Included are inked on numbers, webbing based corner attachments
and a sail bag.
Enjoy this comprehensive line of FD sails.
Sincerely,
Lin Robson
