Tim Riley and Luke Burywood have won the RYA Youth National Championship in their 420 and have been selected for the RYA Volvo Team GBR for the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship 2013, to be held in Cyprus.

The boys, who have only been sailing together for seven months, sailed a consistent series in really challenging easterly winds in Largs Scotland.

They initially held first place for the first two days but lost it midweek as the winds dropped. On the penultimate day they put together three good races counting only 10 points in more stable winds, (only shifting 20 degrees) and this allowed them to show their pace and lead the 38 boat fleet by seven points going into the final day.

Annabel Cattermole / Bryony Bennett-Lloyd 1st Girls

The final day started with more easterly winds and a race track shadowed by the impressive snow-capped hill range.  With winds shifting 20 to 40 degrees and changing in strength from 4 to 14 knots it was not a day for the faint hearted.  They sailed another consistent race finishing 5th three places behind the second place boat and with a dying breeze this was the last race of the 13 race series.

They raced with a North Sails inventory consisting of the M-9 Main, J-12 Jib and 42S-5 Spinnaker.

North Sails boats also took the 2nd and 3rd spots overall including the top girls team.

1. Tim Riley / Luke Burywood
2. Scott Wallis / Josh Voller
3. Annabel Cattermole / Bryony Bennett-Lloyd (Ist female team)
