CUSTOM PERFORMANCE SAILS FOR DUFOUR BOATS

Dufour Yachts Sails by North Sails

Dufour has been building fast, comfortable cruisers in La Rochelle for decades, and the Grand Large range is where most owners start. Models such as the Dufour 390, 430, 470 and 530, alongside earlier boats including the 385 and 455, give you a yacht quick enough to enjoy sailing and roomy enough to live aboard for a season. Later models carry taller rigs and more powerful sail plans than the early boats.

North Sails builds Dufour sails around how the boat is used. Relaxed family cruising calls for durable cloth and simple handling, charter work needs sails that survive daily use by different crews, and club racing rewards shape that holds as the breeze builds. We supply mainsails, in-mast furling mains, furling genoas, self-tacking jibs, code zeros and asymmetric spinnakers to match.

Whichever you choose, the sail is cut to the specification of your exact Dufour model and rig rather than an average of the class, so it fits properly and sets cleanly from the first hoist. Your local loft can confirm the measurements before production begins and service the sails once they are aboard, keeping them performing for years rather than seasons.

DUFOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A:

Pricing depends on the sails you need and the cloth they are built from, so we quote every Dufour individually. A replacement furling genoa costs far less than a full performance inventory. Send your model and how you use the boat and request a quote, and an expert will price it up.

A:

Yes. In-mast furling is common across the Dufour range and we build mains designed to furl cleanly and set well when deployed. Cloth weight, luff finish and roach are all chosen to suit the system on your boat, so tell us which mast and furler you have when you request a quote.

A:

Charter boats need sails that handle daily use by different crews. We usually recommend durable woven cloth, straightforward furling headsails and a mainsail built to take repeated reefing, with UV protection specified properly. Your local loft can advise on the right build for a working boat.

A:

For most cruising owners a furling gennaker or code zero is the easier choice, giving useful power on reaching angles and stowing from the cockpit. If you race, an asymmetric spinnaker gives more downwind performance. We size either to your rig, and you can compare the options on our spinnakers page.

A:

We build to the known specifications of your specific model, so the sail is shaped for your rig from the first hoist. If anything needs confirming, your local loft can take or check measurements before the sail goes into production. Just share your model when you request a quote.
