Katie Spithill

Katie was born into a sailing family as the middle of three children, living in Elvina Bay on Pittwater in NSW, her home was boat access only so she was on/in or around the water from a young age.

Katie started out in the traditional centreboard classes of MJ, F11, 420 & 29er before she joined the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Youth Development Program. She went on to have a strong Match Racing career including wins in many International World Cup Events as well as a Silver and Bronze medal at the Match Racing World Championships, she was part of the Australian Women’s Match Racing Team and qualified a spot for Australia in the 2012 Olympics.

She spent her spare time in Multihulls, racing F18 with her husband, before going on to skipper an Extreme 40 as part of the Extreme Sailing Series.

In 2018 she was part of the 13 all female crew ‚Ocean Respect Racing‘ who went on to place 2nd overall in the 2018 Sydney to Hobart Race racing onboard Wild Oats X.

More recently Katie can be found back to basics on Pittwater enjoying sailing with her 2 children as well as sneaking in some yacht racing when she can.
