North Sails NEWS

Forty-one teams and close to 300 sailors participated in this year’s North Sails Trim Cup, an annual season opener in beautiful Lomma, Sweden! The Trim Cup has always been grounded in training, providing a great kick-off to your sailing season, and this year was no different!

Friday’s “Practice with the Pros” saw 20 boats on the water for a practice session organized by the local North Sails team with added support from North Sails Regatta Service’s Chuck Allen and Andreas Josenhans. Warm Spring conditions – light air, flat seas – offered a nice complement to the later mid-range and eventual squally conditions that followed on Saturday and Sunday.

“All in all we had a nice range of conditions to practice in. This is an avid local community of sailors and it was great seeing everyone out to make the most of the weekend,” said Chuck, who has travelled alongside Josenhans throughout North America and Europe with the North Sails Regatta Services program.

“We had some of the largest crowds we’ve seen at our daily debriefs here in Lomma. It’s a pleasure to work with such a fun, dedicated group,” added Josenhans.

Saturday morning starts and short courses were followed by two official races. By Sunday, the warmer weather vanished and sailors quickly switched back to full gear – fleece hats and gloves galore. Sunday served up a fresh challenge with 12-20 knots of wind and choppy seas, especially for some of the smaller boats. For them “surf or swim” took on a whole new meaning!

“It is fantastic to talk to all the sailors back on shore. People are really happy with the information and feedback from the North Sails Regatta Services program,” said Martin Strandberg of North Sails in Malmo. “The photos, videos and debriefs from Chuck and Andreas help our clients get the most performance from their sails. The concept has been received very well abroad and it’s great to see the reaction here in Sweden!”
