North Sails full batten mainsails come with North Sails adjustable batten boxes installed on the luff end of the batten pockets. Our batten boxes eliminate batten loss through “shake out,” allow for ease in adjusting compression and create a closed, low-profile leech end. They are easy to use and require just five simple steps to install.

Step 1:

Remove the retaining screw from the batten box

Step 2:

Remove the cover by sliding the top back. Make sure that the batten pocket does not get caught on back of cover as the top slides back.

Step 3:

Insert the batten into the pocket making sure that the TAPERED END is forward (towards the mast) and in the box.

Step 4:

With the compression fitting completely backed off (totally loose) insert the batten into the base.

Step 5:

Reinstall the cover and slide it back into position over batten. Insert retaining screw and use the Allen Ket (provided) to apply the desired amount of batten compressions. Batten should be compressed until quite tight

Note: After sailing, the batten may need additional compressing. If there are vertical creases along the batten pocket, the batten should be compressed until the wrinkles disappear.
