Eric Heim

A lifelong waterman, Eric grew up in the beach town of Dana Point, California. His mother was a State Champion in the outrigger canoe and pioneer windsurfer. His dad was a designer and builder of high performance beach catamarans. It wasn’t long before he was spending every day on the beach and in the water. Eric’s introduction to yacht racing took place in the Naples Sabot class. These boats are unique to Southern California and boast a long history of producing world class sailors. His talents and ambition were quickly realized by the local J-24 sailors who added him into their teams and started taking him to traveling events all over the Western Region of the US. It was on the J-24 circuit at age 16 that Eric was approached with an offer he could not refuse, to come and work as a sailmaker and continue to spend as much time as possible immersing himself in his passion of making boats go as fast as possible. Since then he has had the opportunity to work with legends of the craft at various lofts up and down the West Coast. This diversity gave him the unique foundation to be comfortable on any type of boat and any format of race, from inshore dinghies (Snipe Class Zimmerman Trophy for winning the Southern Circuit) to small keelboats (multiple time Cal 20 National Champ) to offshore success (Monohull race record holder in both Little and regular Ensenada races). In 2015, he was recruited to join the North Sails San Diego loft and has continued chasing perfection in any challenge presented whether that be leading the charge for a paperless Service process, building out our new facility, fitting/trialing Superyacht sails or just working in his happy place doing highly technical recuts with a pair of shears and a smile!
