Long-time North Sails expert Gautier Sergent recently took on a new challenge as general manager of North Sails France. With expertise in all aspects of sailmaking, Gautier is in a perfect position to expand the already significant presence of North Sails in offshore racing projects (IMOCA, Ultims), while managing sail design for the Ineos Team UK America’s Cup team and continuing to steer North Sails R&D. 

Over two decades with the company, Gautier has held various positions, including managing 3D production plants in Minden, USA and Sri Lanka. He has actively participated in the development and design of 3DL, 3Di, and overseen a wide variety of custom projects for Ultims, IMOCA, The Ocean Race, America’s Cup, and Grand Prix. 

Gautier strives constantly to push the limits and refine a new design, while keeping the customer as his first priority. «I have a lot of respect for the customers as well as for my team, which is deeply involved in the many projects we are putting in place,» he says. “Many of these projects are part of R&D, a department I have been in charge of since 2017 at North Sails. In addition, my international experience allows me to help connect the group both nationally and globally.”  

“I live my job,” Gautier explains, but when he’s home he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids. To cleanse both mind and body, he heads for the hills or the sea to enjoy nature, biking, running, and foiling on the water with both SUP and kite. “I love the outdoors, so I try to take care of our planet. And most people will tell you that I have a very questionable sense of humor…”
