Torkel Borgstrom is the President of North Sails South America. He started sailing the Optimist at 12 years old and quickly jumped to the Penguin class.  In 1976, he won the Snipe Junior World Championship. A year later, he began sailmaking and racing offshore, winning several races including Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro, Giraglia, Newport to Bermuda, and King’s Cup. He has won the IMS World Championship in the Maxi Class twice (Alexia in 2002 and Azur de Puig in 2015).

Since 2013 he’s sailed Star boats, and he won the Argentine Nationals in 2014, 2017, and 2018 as well as the Districts in 2016 and 2018. He also sails Solings, J/24s, and J/70s.

“I’m passionate about two things,” Torkel says: “Yacht racing and North Sails. I have been involved with North since 1981 and since then we have built a respectable company and made a lot of friends in this sport.”
