Having started working for North Sails Gosport as a sailmaker on the loft floor in 2018, Oscar then moved into his current role as Sails Facilitator later that year. “I think acting as a link between the sales team and the loft floor gives me a strong understanding of how sails are built, how hard they can be pushed and how to repair them both in the loft and at sea.”

“I think acting as a link between the sales team and the loft floor gives me a strong understanding of how sails are built, how hard they can be pushed and how to repair them both in the loft and at sea.”

As a people person, he explains the highlights of the job are interacting with customers; talking to them about sailing and helping with their boats. He also comments on the pride he feels to be part of the North Sails team: “The wealth of talent in Gosport is mind-blowing and I love tapping into it each day.”

With a background in superyachts and watersports instructing, Oscar has enjoyed sailing since the age of seven, being introduced to the sport through family and living in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

Nowadays, Oscar gets a buzz from both inshore and offshore sailing, loving the high speed and quick decisions when racing inshore and the hardcore challenge factor of offshore racing and pushing the limits. He is part of the Performance 40 Class which brings a mix of 40-foot yachts together on the Solent for tight racing and a great social scene.

The highlight of his sailing career so far? “Sailing the 125-foot Fife, Mariquita.”, Oscar says. “She is a classic. Everything onboard is done by hand which makes the sailing even more special. She is a hugely overpowered yacht, dangerous at times, but surprisingly calm as well.”
