CUSTOM PERFORMANCE SAILS FOR AMEL BOATS

Amel Yachts Sails by North Sails

Amel occupies a distinctive corner of the cruising world, building rugged, self-sufficient yachts designed to carry a small crew safely across oceans. From the Amel Super Maramu to the Amel 50, Amel 54, and Amel 60, these are boats made for distance, comfort, and self-reliance far from port. The sails that drive them need to be just as capable, holding their shape and their performance long after the coastline has dropped away.

North Sails approaches every Amel inventory with that in mind. Working from your model's specifications, our designers build a full Amel wardrobe, from an Amel mainsail and Amel headsail to genoas, the mizzen on ketch-rigged boats, and an Amel spinnaker for lighter days. Materials such as 3Di OCEAN are chosen for shape retention and durability over long passages, and each sail is set up to be reefed and handled easily by two.

The outcome is an inventory tuned to your exact boat and the way you use it. Whether you are coastal cruising or crossing oceans, your Amel sails stay reliable, predictable, and easy to manage, with your nearest loft on hand for advice and servicing wherever your travels take you.

AMEL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A:

There is no fixed price, because every sail is built to your exact Amel specification, from the sail type to the cloth. An Amel mainsail for a Super Maramu is a different proposition from a full inventory for an Amel 60. Whether you want to buy Amel sails as a single replacement or order new Amel sails for the whole boat, request an Amel sail quote with your model and how you sail, and a North Sails expert will come back to you with a figure.

A:

We build to the known specifications of your specific Amel, from the Santorin and Super Maramu through to the latest 50 and 60, so the sail is shaped for your rig from the first hoist. If anything needs confirming, your local loft can measure the boat before the sail goes into production. Just share your model when you request a quote and we will match the design to your boat.

A:

Yes. Amel's ketch rig is one of its signatures, and we build the complete wardrobe for it, the mainsail, genoa, staysail, mizzen, and the downwind sails that make the most of the rig. Designing the sails as a set means they work together properly, so the boat stays balanced and easy to handle whether you are flying everything or shortened right down.

A:

For serious ocean miles we usually point Amel owners toward 3Di OCEAN, which holds its shape over thousands of miles and resists the fatigue that softens woven sails. Cruising laminates and premium Dacron are sound, lower-cost choices for mixed use. The right answer depends on your budget and how far you sail. Our sail material guide sets out the differences, or talk it through with your local loft.

A:

That is the goal on a boat built for couples. We can specify furling-friendly sails, manageable cloth weights, and details like foam luffs and UV protection so the sails set well when partly furled and are simple to work from the cockpit. The aim is an inventory that one person can handle confidently when the other is off watch.
