NORTH SAILS COWES WEEK 2026

The stage is set for a spectacular bicentennial event.

One of the world’s most iconic annual regattas is set to celebrate its 200th edition in style, and North Sails is proud to be the title partner, with a shared commitment to help deliver an unforgettable week. North Sails Cowes Week, which kicks off on August 1st, looks set to be bigger and better than ever before, both on the water and on land.

A Timeless Classic, A Bright Future

Since 1826, Cowes Week has been a cornerstone of the British summer sporting calendar, alongside iconic events such as Wimbledon and Royal Ascot. This year promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The numbers speak for themselves: over 600 boats will compete across 27 classes, with up to 40 races taking place each day over seven days on the Solent. Together, these figures make North Sails Cowes Week one of the largest sailing regattas of its kind worldwide.

The event is expected to welcome more than 5,000 competitors, ranging from Olympic and world-class professionals to passionate weekend sailors. They will be cheered on by over 60,000 spectators, all enjoying the unique atmosphere, shoreside festivities, and live entertainment that fill the streets, marinas, and waterfront of Cowes throughout the week.

Powering Performance, Celebrating Results 

Performance is at the heart of North Sails DNA and creates a shared passion with all regatta racers. To that end, North plans to celebrate winning results with special podium flags for each class, to be hoisted and displayed proudly in port. North has gone a step further with the XOD and J/70 classes, introducing the Yellow Kite. For the XOD and J/70 classes, the daily leader will earn the right to fly the Yellow Kite, North Sails' answer to the Tour de France's famous yellow jersey, marking the boat at the head of the fleet. 

Just as cycling fans keep their eyes on the race leader in yellow, sailors and spectators alike will be watching the bright North Sails spinnaker as it marks the fleet leader throughout the week. The overall winners in each class will earn the right to take the coveted yellow spinnaker home at the end of the regatta. 

In addition to the one design duels on the water, there are plenty of other teams to keep an eye on. James Neville’s Ino Veritas will be one to watch coming in on the heels of their victory at the Sardinia Cup. The TP52 with a full arsenal of North Sails and a Southern Spars rig has proven to be very fast in the Mediterranean, but will now need to prove itself in the Solent. 

Further down racing in IRC, Jan Scholtes has brought his J/99 Warp 5 over from the Netherlands, supported by the North Sails loft in the Netherlands. Another one well worth tracking as the week progresses.

North Sails is on hand to support the event in every aspect, including expert insights and valuable tips. A post-race daily debrief to review tactics and share insights from seasoned racing experts will allow every competitor the chance to up their game. Our experts will review the day on the water with specific classes so whether winning is the goal or just moving up the fleet, a sense of community and the shared goal of better sailing is provided. As a bonus, some of the world’s best sailors who partner with North Sails will be in Cowes throughout the week, including sailors from GB1, the British entry in the next America’s Cup.  

As we do at many regattas around the world, North Sails service experts will be on site all week offering Regatta Repair services to all registered competitors. Operating out of the North Sails loft in the centre of Cowes Yacht Haven, our team of sail experts offer overnight sail repair to make sure no one misses a moment of racing and can push themselves to the limit.

North Sails Day: Wednesday, August 5th 

To mark North Sails Day on Wednesday, August 5th, North will be taking over the Cowes Week social feed to follow the racing, which includes the Britannia Cup, one of the most prestigious trophies awarded during North Sails Cowes Week for the fastest, highest-rated big boats in the fleet. And activities away from the race track include a North Sails Action Sports demonstration, with high-octane kitesurfing action off the Cowes promenade from North rider Matteo Dorotini. 

Wednesday will wrap up with the newly added North Sails Competitor Party. Music comes courtesy of La Folie Douce, the renowned Apres Ski band, bringing their trademark brand of high-energy live music to Shepherds Pier. It will surely be a party to remember. And thanks to North Sails, the party continues until the end of the week, which will see the return of the celebrated Cowes fireworks to mark the end of another phenomenal regatta on August 7th.
