Joel’s original plan was for employment with a technically innovative company in the renewable energy sector. In 1997, an offer to use his technology background crossed paths with the chance to enjoy a sport he truly loved, and he’s worked  at the Gosport, UK loft ever since in both the One Design and Offshore divisions. He is currently a sail designer.

He’s appreciative of the shared knowledge from the rest of the North Sails world – sailmakers, sales force, and designers, acknowledging that it’s one of the things that makes North Sails a great place to work and grow. Joel admits, “I’m no pro sailor so maybe not qualified to give advice, ​but  every time you go sailing you should already have in mind something different to try that day.“

Joel spends his spare time sailing his Mirror dinghy with family and racing his 49er with friends. Though kept busy with work and family, he still finds time to do some snowboarding and cycling, and he also assists with governance and policy work at a local school.
