Mickey designed the downwind sails for Team New Zealand’s America’s Cup wins (1995 and 2000) and helped Team USA Oracle win in 2013. In between, he designed the sails for ABN Amro 2,  winner of the 2005-06 Volvo Ocean Race. “Having been successful in both the round-the-world race and the America’s Cup is very satisfying.”

Mickey started making and designing sails at North Sails Germany during the early 1980s before joining North Sails New Zealand. He is a two time winner of the Fastnet and has won European titles in small keelboats. A recovering Finn sailor, he’s also competed in the Tornado and A-Class catamarans.

Following his early and successful wind tunnel work helped to design fast sails for Team New Zealand, Mickey now uses a quiver of North’s proprietary design tools to create fast shapes. He also helped with the early implementation of 3Di into various Grand Prix classes like the RC44, Mini Maxis and TP52.
