“Be a sponge. Learn as much as you can from the folks around you. Don’t be afraid to blaze your own trail –  there’s no script for any of this,” says Charlie, who joined the North Sails team the day after his 2008 graduation from Brown University. His desire to work for North Sails was based on the fact that North is the sailmaking industry leader with vast R&D resources.

Since then, Charlie was instrumental in putting together the TEAM ALVIMEDICA campaign, and then skippering the boat around the world in the 2014 Volvo Race. He has also posted results in a versatile assortment of boats – from a victory in the J/24 Midwinters to a win in the Newport-Bermuda Race.

Charlie is currently racing in the 2017-18 Volvo Ocean Race as skipper for Vestas 11th Hour Racing. Between legs and stopovers, he enjoys being a husband and father, and perfecting his cooking skills.
