Ched Proctor

Ched Proctor started racing one design sailboats at Scituate Harbor Yacht Club on the south shore of MA when he was 10 and hasn’t stopped. He has worked at North Sails in Wisconsin, Melbourne, Australia (where he and John Bertrand started the North Sails loft), West Germany and most recently Connecticut. He has developed sail designs, tuning techniques and information for many one design classes. They have ranged from the Scow classes in the Midwest, Light Weight Sharpie in Australia, Dragon class in Germany, and the IOD class, among others, in Connecticut.

He has competed in numerous one design classes over the years. These have included the 210, Finn (Australian champion), International 470, Thistle, Shields, Star, Etchells, Sonar, J24, Lightning, Viper 640 and recently the VX One. Among his first place championships are six Shields National Championship, Sonar North American Championship, five Lightning North American Championships, Lightning World Championship twice 3rd, and Etchells Long Island Sound Championship. This season he’s enjoyed sailing in the Lightning winning the Southern Circuit, Winter Championship, Lightning Mid-Winter’s and Central Atlantic Districts.
