CUSTOM PERFORMANCE SAILS FOR OYSTER BOATS

Oyster Yachts Sails by North Sails

Oyster builds yachts with one main aim, to take their owners safely and comfortably anywhere in the world. From the Oyster 495 up to the largest models in the range, these are serious bluewater cruisers, frequently cutter-rigged and set up for long passages with a small crew. Sails for boats like this are not an accessory, they are the engine, and they have to be dependable thousands of miles from the nearest loft.

North Sails has equipped countless ocean voyagers, and that experience goes into every Oyster inventory. We build the full wardrobe, from an Oyster mainsail and Oyster headsail to a yankee and staysail on cutter rigs, plus an Oyster spinnaker or an easy furling sail for trade-wind runs. Constructions such as 3Di OCEAN hold their shape over long distances and stay manageable for a shorthanded crew.

Engineered to your exact yacht, your Oyster sails are built for reliability, easy handling, and a long life at sea. Wherever you end up, the global North Sails service network is there to keep them in top condition.

OYSTER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A:

On a yacht the size of an Oyster, sails are a significant investment, and the cost reflects the scale of the boat and the kind of sailing you do. A single Oyster mainsail is one thing; a full offshore inventory with a cutter rig and downwind sails is another. We will give you a clear, itemised figure once we know your model and plans, whether you want to buy Oyster sails individually or commission a new Oyster sail inventory for a long cruise. Request an Oyster sail quote to get started.

A:

Yes, and it is one of our specialities. For shorthanded ocean cruising we design the whole inventory to be manageable by a couple: furling headsails, an easily reefed mainsail, foam luffs and UV covers, and downwind sails that set and stow simply. Everything is built to work together so the boat stays balanced and safe to handle, whether you are two on watch or one.

A:

Yes. The cutter rig is a classic Oyster setup, and we build the full combination, a high-cut yankee and an inner staysail that work together to give you flexible, easily reefed power offshore. Each sail is shaped to complement the other and the mainsail, so you can balance the boat quickly as the wind builds and ease the load on any single sail.

A:

For genuine offshore use we usually recommend 3Di OCEAN. It holds its shape over thousands of miles and resists the stretch and fatigue that tire woven sails, which matters when you are far from help. Premium cruising laminates and heavy Dacron remain sound choices for coastal use or tighter budgets. The sail material guide explains the trade-offs, or talk it through with your local loft.

A:

Yes. For long downwind passages we offer furling gennakers and cruising code sails that give an Oyster easy, controllable power in the trades without the handling of a traditional spinnaker. They set and furl from the cockpit, so a small crew can use them confidently day after day. We will match the right sail and furling system to your boat and your planned route.
