Hunter built a large share of the production cruising fleet in the United States, and models such as the Hunter 31, 336, 356, 380, 410 and 45 are still sailing in numbers today. Many carry the B&R rig, with swept spreaders, no backstay and a large-roach mainsail, which changes how the boat is trimmed and how the sails have to be shaped.

North Sails builds Hunter sails around that rig and the sailing you do. Weekend cruising and coastal passages call for durable, forgiving cloth, while club racing rewards shape that holds as the breeze builds. We build full-batten mainsails, furling genoas, working jibs, cruising spinnakers and furling reaching sails in Dacron or laminate to suit. Cloth weight, batten layout and reef positions are all matched to your mast, boom and furling setup rather than assumed.

Being out of production is no obstacle. Every sail is built to your exact model and rig rather than a class average, so it fits properly and sets cleanly from the first hoist. Where original records are thin, your local loft can measure the boat in person before anything goes into production, then service the sails once they are in use.

There is no set price, because it comes down to the sails you need and the cloth you choose. A replacement furling genoa for a Hunter 31 is a modest outlay next to a full inventory for a 45. Send your model and sailing style and request a quote for a firm figure.

Yes. Swept spreaders and no backstay change how the mainsail can be shaped and how far it can be eased, so we design the roach, batten layout and cloth to suit that rig rather than a conventional one. Tell us your model and mast when you request a quote.

Yes. Older Hunters are among the boats we build for most often, and being out of production is no problem. We work to your exact model and rig, and your local loft can verify measurements where original records are limited.

Most Hunter owners are best served by a furling genoa built with foam shaping in the luff, so it keeps a usable shape when partly rolled away, plus proper UV protection on the leech and foot. We size it to your foretriangle and furler. See the options on our headsails page.

It depends on how often you sail, the conditions and how the sails are stored. Dacron is robust and forgiving, while laminates hold their shape longer across their life. Regular checks, correct furling and proper off-season storage all add years, and your local loft can inspect and repair them.
